The number of individuals suffering from anorexia nervosa is on the rise. For generations now young women or men who suffer from an eating disorder were looked at as weak. In recent years, there have been an increasing amount of studies done about eating disorders in hopes of learning more about the underlying causes of eating disorders. The three major eating disorders are bulimia, anorexia and binge eating disorder. It is shocking how many more men are reporting that they have eating disorders. When someone is bulimic they binge eat and then purge as a means of keeping their weight down. This disorder is terrifying because it is harder to spot by the public eye. Anorexia is when someone starves their body of necessary nutrients as a means of keeping their weight down. The side of effects of anorexia is the typical signs of malnutrition. When someone suffers from binge eating disorder they over eat as a means of compensating. These individuals have an emotional trigger that causes them to eat as a means of finding comfort.
Often time’s individuals with this disorder don’t know exactly what their triggers are. The probability that an individual also has a panic disorder or anxiety disorder is high. There are cases when individuals with eating disorders do not socialize as much as others and tend to enjoy time to themselves. There are many potential reasons this occurs, one of which may be attributed to the individual lack of self-esteem. There is no reason to feel ashamed to start eating disorders treatment.
